defectors into its war on terror against Al Qaeda. After waging an eight-year
dirty war against the Taliban, U.S. military commanders and politicians are
publicly acknowledging their insurgent enemy is actually part of the fabric

Toxic wastes and Haiti
By Mitchel Cohen
Two decades ago, the garbage barge, the Khian
Sea, with no place in the U.S. willing to accept its garbage, left the
territorial waters of the United States and began circling the oceans in search
of a country willing to accept its cargo: 14,000 tons of toxic incinerator ash.
First it went to the Bahamas, then to the Dominican Republic, Honduras,
Bermuda, Guinea Bissau and the Netherlands Antilles. Wherever it went, people
gathered to protest its arrival. No one wanted the millions of pounds of
Philadelphia municipal incinerator ash dumped in their country.

Yanukovich, a man for all seasons
By Eric Walberg
Ukraines presidential elections Sunday were
remarkable in more ways than one. The winner of the first round and favourite
to lead Ukraine at a crucial moment in its history is the one politician
observers long ago dismissed as a has-been. Viktor Yanukovich is mocked by his
opponents as an illiterate bumpkin, a puppet of Ukrainian business magnates, a
former criminal and communist, a conspirer against the brave democrats of the
legendary Orange Revolution of 2004. Have I left anything out? Does he kick
dogs or beat his mother?

An Orwellian world for Big Brother
By Ken Craggs
The Council of Europe document Internet Governance and critical
Internet resources states (p.7) that
. . . the Internet of Things refers to the seamless connection of devices,
sensors, objects, rooms, machines, vehicles, etc, through fixed and wireless
networks. Connected sensors, devices and tags can interact with the environment
and send the information to other objects through machine-to-machine
communication . . . The Semantic Web
promotes this synergy: even agents that where not expressly designed to work
together can transfer data among themselves when the data come with semantics.

Obama's screwing of American workers and his and Hillary's links to India
By Wayne Madsen
(WMR) --
There is a reason why the corporate media focused on White House state dinner
crashers Tareq and Michaele Salahi at last year's gala honoring Indian Prime
Minister Monmohan Singh. The media, which acts in lockstep with major corporate
owners like Microsoft and General Electric in pushing for the import of
low-wage Indian information technology and other high-technology workers into
the United States on H1-B visas, did not want anyone focused on the deal worked
out between President Obama and Singh.

A North American security perimeter on the horizon
By Dana Gabriel
NAFTA has extended from economic integration
into a political and regional security pact which has been achieved through the
Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) of North America, Plan Mexico, as
well as other initiatives. Various pieces of legislation and reports, along
with influential individuals have called for closer trilateral cooperation
regarding common rules for immigration and security enforcement around the
perimeter of the continent. A major part of the U.S. security agenda already
includes the defense of North America, but a full blown security zone would
bring Canada and Mexico further under U.S. control. A Fortress North America
poses a serious threat to our sovereignty and would mean the loss of more civil
liberties.
