Blustering boycotts: The business of theopolitics
By Mel Seesholtz, Ph.D.
Both mainstream
and gay
media widely reported that on January 19 Rev. Ken
Hutcherson, pastor of Antioch Bible Church in the east Seattle suburb of
Redmond, which is also home to Microsoft, was going to call for a national
boycott of the corporate giant on a Focus on the Family (FOF) radio broadcast.
The reason: Microsoft -- along with Boeing and representatives of Corbis,
Hewlett-Packard, Nike, RealNetworks and Vulcan -- had signed a letter
supporting pending legislation
in Washington state that would prohibit discrimination.

Bush and the Christian Right: $100 million for discrimination

The so-called "Healthy Marriage Initiative"
is the latest scheming, malicious way for the pathological Bush administration
and Christian Right to intentionally disenfranchise, demean,
denigrate and hurt gay and lesbian Americans, their children and their

The stigmata of "intelligent design"
By
Mel Seesholtz, Ph.D.
Stigmata: the "spontaneous
manifestation of bloody wounds on a person's hands, feet, forehead and
back -- similar to the wounds of the crucified Jesus. Those who describe
stigmata categorize these experiences as divine or mystical. History tells us
that many ecstatics exhibit on hands, feet, side, or brow the marks of the
Passion of Christ with corresponding and intense sufferings. These are called
visible stigmata. Others only have the sufferings, without any outward marks,
and these phenomena are called invisible stigmata."

Evangelicals exploit Air Force Academy; military officials interlocked with local activists
By Devlin Buckley
Four Air Force officers -- all graduates of the Air
Force Academy's class of 2004 -- have recently joined
a lawsuit
that accuses leaders at the academy of overtly pressuring cadets to undertake
evangelical religious instruction. The original lawsuit was filed in October by
Mikey Weinstein, a former Air Force officer and graduate of the academy, whose
son experienced religious discrimination while attending the school.

Atheist group making Falwell's dream come true by making 'War on Christmas' fantasy a reality
By Jeff Nall
On December 5, Beyond Belief Media (BBM), the group
responsible for the less than impressive film The God Who Wasnt There, made
Jerry Falwells dreams come true. Under the control of president Brian
Flemming, BBM officially declared 'war on Christmas.' In a press release
Flemming stated that: "Christian conservatives complain nonstop about the
'War on Christmas,' but there really isnt any such war."

What the "Left Behind" series really means
By Joe Bageant
This kind of
Christianity is a black thing. It is a blood religion that willingly gives up
sons to America's campaigns in the Holy Land, hoping they will bring on the
much-anticipated war between good and evil in the Middle East that will hasten
the End Times. Bring Jesus back to Earth.

Christmas is a secular holiday, whose fault is that?
By Eavan Callaghan
This is the time of year for Santa Claus, evergreen
trees, flying reindeer and flying sleds. This is also the time of year for
Christians to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. What do Santa, evergreen
trees, flying reindeer and flying sleds have to do with the birth of Jesus?
These things have about as much business being part of Christmas as an
evergreen tree has being in the Holy Land.

Evangelical politics and the Gospel According to George
By Mel Seesholtz, Ph.D.
America likes to believe it believes that all citizens
are equal, but that's as delusional as Young Earth Creationists' belief that T.
rex was a passenger on Noah's ark. The Bush administration owes its existence
to the evangelical Christian Right. Their common ideology and tactics derive
from the worst that politicized religion has to offer.

When the "light" in "Enlightenment" goes out
By Mel Seesholtz, Ph.D.
"The Age of Enlightenment refers to the 18th
century in European philosophy, and is often thought of as part of a larger
period which includes the Age of Reason. The term also more specifically refers to a
historical intellectual movement, 'The Enlightenment.' This movement advocated
rationality as a means to establish an authoritative system of ethics, aesthetics, and knowledge."

Through a glass, darkly
By Ernest Partridge
The Gallup
organization reports that 35 percent of Americans believe the Bible to be the "inerrant
word of God," while another 48 percent believe it to be the "inspired"
word of God, but nonetheless "inerrant" if certain parts are
interpreted symbolically rather than literally. Similarly, The
Barna Group reports that 61 percent of Americans believe that "the
Bible is totally accurate in all of its teachings." (More statements of
Biblical "inerrancy" here,

What he said during the interview defined theofascism: Homosexuals are to be

not advocating the independent killing of homosexuals . . . Im saying that the
Governments duty is to uphold Gods law.
