Theocratizing FEMA and pregnancy
By Mel Seesholtz, Ph.D.
In the aftermath of hurricane Frances strike on
Florida in 2004, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) used relief
funds to buy votes for George
W. Bush. But the administrations use of FEMA to advance its agenda was just
beginning.

The myth of the will of the people
By Eavan Callaghan
I'm so tired of hearing about the will of the people.
You can't put the discrimination of a minority up to a vote of the majority.
That's fundamentally flawed.

Unintelligent by design and definition
By Mel Seesholtz, Ph.D.
Whod have thought that in the early twenty-first
century so many supposedly educated Americans would be turning off their brains
and embracing Jerry Falwells notion that The Bible is the inerrant . . . word
of the living God. It is absolutely infallible, without error in all matters
pertaining to faith and practice, as well as in areas such as geography,
science, history, etc.

The Roman Catholic Church of Corruption

Dante reserved the lowest circle of hellthe circle of
treacheryfor those who violated trust. He placed quite a few priests,
church leaders, and popes there. Theyll be getting lots of company . . .

Ministers of malignancy and Schwarzeneggers ridiculous reasoning
By Mel Seesholtz, Ph.D.
Just moments after the California Assembly passed AB 849 that would have replaced references to male and
female in the states marriage code with two persons, Traditional Values
Coalition lobbyist and spokesman Benjamin Lopez flew into a tirade replete
with the usual nonsensical assertions and political threats.

In the name of God and Katrina
By Mel Seesholtz, Ph.D.
Throughout history politically motivated religious
leaders have used natural disasters and human suffering to validate and advance
their own agendas. It didnt take long for todays crop of zealots to begin
using the appalling devastation and human tragedy caused by Katrina to further
their own social and political agendas in the name of God.

Malignant hate hiding behind religion
By Mel Seesholtz, Ph.D.
With every passing day, the leaders of the Christian
Right become more unhinged and increasingly violent in their rhetoric. Pat
Robertsons call to assassinate -- and yes, Pat, even the Christian press confirms you
did use the word assassinate -- Venezuelas president was big news, except in
the Bush administration where it was largely ignored and/or
excused. But even Robertson has to strive to match the pure hate the Rev. Lou
Sheldon vomits forth daily.

Detoxifying self-deception
By John Kaminski
It's like taking
candy away from a baby. The candy's no good for the kid, but it will take him
many years and much learning to realize the favor you did for him. In the
meantime he'll whine about how mean you were and how wrong it was to do that.
But when he's a healthy adult, because of the very thing you took away, he may
actually develop the judgment and wisdom to thank you for what you did. In any
case, he'll be much healthier.

orders of business for George W. Bush in January 2001 was to establish a White
House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, the cornerstone social
policy of his presidency. At a ceremony attended by numerous religious leaders,
Bush announced executive orders that instructed the Departments of Health and
Human Services, Labor, Justice, Education and Housing and Urban Development to
set up Centers for Faith-Based and Community Initiatives within their agencies.
