French Open officials announced Thursday that Andy Roddick and Juan Carlos Ferrero had withdrawn from the event.

Both players have been ranked No. 1 during their careers and both are recovering from injuries to their right shoulder.

Roddick defeated Ferrero in the championship match of the 2003 U.S. Open. He is currently on a four-match losing streak on the ATP World Tour and has never made it past the fourth round at the French Open.

The men's draw for the tournament will be announced Friday and competition will start Sunday.
