Former child actor Jackie Cooper has died at a hospital in Beverly Hills, Calif., his family said. He was 88.
TMZ said he died Tuesday after a brief, unspecified illness.
The former "Our Gang" star was nominated for an Oscar when he was 9 years old for his performance in the movie "Skippy." His other film credits include "The Champ," "The Bowery" and "Treasure Island."
As an adult, he played Daily Planet newspaper editor Perry White in the "Superman" movies, starring Christopher Reeve.
He also won Emmy Awards for directing episodes of "M*A*S*H*" and "The White Shadow," TMZ said.
