Armie Hammer has signed on to play the title character in Hollywood's big-screen adaptation of "The Lone Ranger," Variety reported.
Hammer, 24, is best known for his portrayal of the Winklevoss twins in the 2010 Oscar-nominated film "The Social Network."
The actor is to begin work on "The Lone Ranger" movie this fall.
Johnny Depp was previously cast in the movie as the Lone Ranger's American Indian sidekick Tonto.
"The Lone Ranger" began as a radio show in 1933. It later spawned a popular TV show, movies and comic books.
