A second lead actor has been cast in the upcoming Farrelly Brothers' comedy "The Three Stooges."
Sean Hayes, former star of "Will & Grace," will play the role of Larry. He joins Will Sasso, the former MADtv actor, who will play Curly. The role of Moe has yet to be cast.
Hayes rose to national prominence while playing the role of neighbor Jack McFarland in the NBC hit "Will & Grace." His previous movie roles include parts in "The Bucket List" and animated features "Igor" and "Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore."
Hayes confirmed he had been tabbed for the role of Larry in a tweet sent out Tuesday.
"Thanks, everyone. I've been honored with the chance to play an iconic member of The Three Stooges. I will make it as funny as I can," tweeted Hayes, who currently stars in the Broadway musical comedy "Promises, Promise."
According to US Magazine, Sean Penn had been the first choice to play Larry.
"The Three Stooges" is expected to begin production later this month. The movie has been in the works for several years and finally got the go-ahead when MGM was approved for bankruptcy.
The Farrelly brothers offered the following description of how it plans to bring the "The Three Stooges" back to the big screen, according to ScreenRant.
"There will be non-stop slapping, more in the tone of 'Dumb and Dumber' than anything else weve done. Our goal is 85 minutes of laughs in a film that will be very respectful of who the Stooges were. It's by far the riskiest project we've ever done, without question, but it is also the one closest to our hearts."
