Netflix Backpedals on DVD Plans

Netflix says it has changed its plans and will allow U.S. members to continue using the Netflix Web site for both streaming and ordering DVDs by mail.

The California-based company said in a Sept. 18 blog post its DVD-by-mail service would operate through Qwikster.com instead of where it had been accessed at Netflix.com.

However, Netflix said in an e-mail to U.S. subscribers Monday it will continue to use one Web site, one account and one password for its movie and TV watching under the Netflix brand.

"Consumers value the simplicity Netflix has always offered and we respect that," Netflix co-founder and Chief Executive Officer Reed Hastings said in a statement. "There is a difference between moving quickly -- which Netflix has done very well for years -- and moving too fast, which is what we did in this case."
