Orlando Magic all-star center Dwight Howard has requested a trade from the team, General Manager Otis Smith said Saturday.
Smith told the Orlando Sentinel Howard has twice asked to be traded since Monday.
The GM, however, added that Howard, 26, also hasn't ruled out a return to the Magic.
The three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year has gained permission from Smith to talk to the Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Lakers and New Jersey Nets as possible trade destinations.
The 6-foot-11 pivot man is owed $17.9 million this season and $19.3 million next year under his current contract. But it contains an early termination option that could make him a free agent after this season.
Last season he posted averages of 22.9 points, 14.1 rebounds and 2.4 blocks in 78 games.
