Newt Gingrich will formally enter the Republican presidential race Wednesday, his spokesman said Monday.
Spokesman Rick Tyler wrote on Twitter Monday morning that the former speaker of the House will make the announcement via Facebook and Twitter, Politico reported.
He will then give his first interview as a candidate on Fox News and address the Georgia Republican convention Friday.
Gingrich himself later sent a Twitter message: "Be sure to watch [Sean] Hannity this Wednesday at 9pm ET/8pm CT. I will be on to talk about my run for President of the United States."
In March, aides said Gingrich was establishing an exploratory committee, but delayed putting his business interests in order.
