Sir Elton John believes that the late Princess Diana would be quite pleased with her son Prince William's choice to wed his fiance Kate Middleton.

The British icon told Good Morning America that Princess Diana -- who was a close personal friend during her lifetime -- would be "very, very happy" about the wedding to take place Friday, April 29.

Sir Elton John and his partner David Furnish are confirmed the guests at Friday's wedding in Westminster Abbey in London. Though he is excited, the pop star admits the wedding will bring back painful memories."

"The last time we were in Westminster Abbey, my heart sank when I saw those two young boys (Princes William and Harry) walking behind the coffin," he said. "I thought that was the hardest thing, I can;t imagine at that young age, having to walk in public, following your mother's coffin."

"And the next time we're in the Abbey, it's to see him (William) walking up the aisle with a beautiful woman and the love of his life."

He added: "I think it's the most joyous result and I'm sure Diana would be very, very happy about it... I think that she would be very happy with his choice. She (Middleton) seems such a great girl. And they seem so much in love."
