House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi was released from a Roman hospital today after being admitted yesterday. Pelosi had complained she was 'not feeling well' and her staff advised she seek medical attention.
The former Speaker of the House was in Italy after she and four other House members traveled to Afghanistan on Saturday, where they met with Afghan President Hamid Karzai. Her office said they discussed the political and security situation in Afghanistan. After a short stay, the speaker was released. No further details were given about Pelosi's health.
"After several flights yesterday in Afghanistan, and a long flight back to Italy that arrived early this morning, Leader Pelosi was not feeling well," spokesman Nadeam Elshami said in a statement to Reuters.
The statement goes on to clarify that the only reason Pelosi visited the hospital for this seemingly minor ailment was that it was the closest medical facility her staff could locate.
Pelosi, the first Italian-American to ever hold the title of Speaker of the House, heads a congressional delegation invited to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy.
According to reports from the LA. Times and others, Pelosi has used Twitter to send updates on her health, saying Pelosi used Twitter to thank those asking about her health.
'Thanks to everyone for your well wishes -- had a very productive trip to Afghanistan and am in Italy resuming meetings now.'
