"Clark Rockefeller" Karl Gerhartsreiter has been charged. The German-born con man who last used the alias Clark Rockefeller has been indicted in Los Angeles County for the 1985 slaying of his San Marino landlord.

The skeleton of Jonathan Sohus was found in the backyard of his home in 1994 but authorities were unable to locate his tenant, Karl Gerhartsreiter, who left town shortly after Sohus and his wife disappeared, the Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday.

At the time, Gerhartsreiter was known as Christopher Chichester, a would-be film producer.

Gerhartsreiter came to national attention as Clark Rockefeller in 2008 when he was charged with kidnapping his 7-year-old daughter during a supervised visit. He was sentenced to five-years in a Massachusetts state prison.

Massachusetts authorities discovered Gerhartsreiter's real name along with a dozen aliases. Their investigation enabled Los Angeles County detectives to reopen the Sohus case.

The body of Linda Sohus has not been found.

Los Angeles County authorities said they will begin extradition proceedings for Gerhartsreiter immediately.
