Alice in Chains was one of the most popular bands to come out of the 90's grunge music scene in Seattle. On Monday, another original member of the band was found dead - fueling speculation that drugs were again to blame.

Mike Starr, former bassist for the grunge band Alice in Chains, has been found dead in a home in Salt Lake City, Utah, police said Tuesday. He was 44.

"It's a terrible shock and tragedy," Starr's father told TMZ.

The entertainment news Web site did not give the elder man's name or the suspected cause of Starr's death.

The musician, who long battled an addiction to drugs, appeared on TV's "Celebrity Rehab" in 2009.

He was arrested in Salt Lake City last month and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance -- six Xanax and six Opana pills -- TMZ said.
