The Sun-Drop Diamond, otherwise known as the largest canary colored
diamond in the world, has sold for $12.3 million according to Forbes.
The
110.03-carat pear-shaped diamond was sold at Sotheby's Sale of
Magnificent Jewels in Geneva on Tuesday, breaking records for the
auction of yellow diamonds. The previous record was set in October at
Christie's New York auction, where a 32.77-carat
yellow diamond, also pear-shaped, sold for almost $6.6
million.
David Bennett, chairman of Sotheby's Jewelry Department in Europe
and the Middle East said, "We are thrilled with the price achieved by
this spectacular daffodil
yellow diamond; it is one of the most impressive I have had the
pleasure of selling."
