Actor Morgan Freeman is to be honored with a lifetime achievement award at the Golden Globes telecast, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association said.
Freeman, 74, will be presented with the Cecil B. DeMille Award for his outstanding contribution to the entertainment field, the HFPA, which organizes the annual event, said Thursday.
He won the Academy Award in 2005 for Best Supporting Actor for his role in "Million Dollar Baby." In 1990, he won the Golden Globe for Best Actor for his performance in "Driving Miss Daisy." Freeman also earned an Academy Award nomination in 1987 for Best Supporting Actor for "Street Smart" and in 1994 for Best Actor for "The Shawshank Redemption."
Freeman is currently in production on "The Dark Knight Rises," the third installment in Christopher Nolan's Batman film series.
The 69th annual Golden Globes ceremony is to take place Jan. 15 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif. It is to air on NBC.
Robert De Niro was the recipient of the Cecil B. DeMille Award in 2011.
