Derrick Mason Traded to Houston Texans

The New York Jets have sent wide receiver Derrick Mason to the Houston Texans for an undisclosed draft choice, the teams announced Wednesday.

Mason, a 14-year NFL veteran, was signed by the Jets in the off-season after playing six years in Baltimore. He hauled down 61 catches for 802 yards and seven scores last season for the Ravens.

This year, however, Mason has made just 13 catches for 115 yards in five games -- including two starts -- for New York.

Jets General Manager Mike Tannenbaum said Mason's trade had "nothing to do" with negative comments the receiver made after the Jets' loss to Baltimore in Week 4.

The New York Daily News reported Mason was one of several receivers who in recent weeks went to head Coach Rex Ryan with complaints about offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer.

Tannenbaum said the move was based on Mason's performance and the emergence of rookie receiver Jeremy Kerley.
