Actor Roberts Blossom has died of natural causes at a nursing home in Santa Monica, Calif., his family said. He was 87.
The Los Angeles Times confirmed Blossom's death with his daughter, Deborah.
Best known for his work in the film "Home Alone" and on the soap opera "Another World," the Connecticut native also was a published poet and three-time Obie Award winner for his work in off-Broadway productions in the 1950s, '60s and '70s.
His other big-screen credits include "The Hospital," "Slaughterhouse-Five," "The Great Gatsby," "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," "Escape From Alcatraz," "Resurrection" and "Doc Hollywood."
He made guest appearances on "Moonlighting," "Northern Exposure" and "In the Heat of the Night," as well.
In addition to Deborah, Blossom is survived by a son, Michael.
