China, U.S. to talk business

Chinese officials say they're eager to resume stalled economic talks with the United States.

Chinese and U.S. officials will meet in Beijing May 3-4 for the fourth round of the Strategic and Economic Dialogue. The U.S. delegation will be led by Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner.

Chinese Vice Minister of Finance Zhu Guangyao told a press briefing Saturday the negotiations were suspended due to the U.S. side's internal assessment of the text, Xinhua reported.

Chinese officials said the two sides will continue talks on an investment protection agreement.

“The Chinese side is glad that the negotiations will resume on the sidelines of the fourth round of the S&ED,” Zhu said Saturday.

After her visit to China, Clinton will travel to Bangladesh and India from May 5-8, to discuss “a full range of political, economic and security matters,” the State Department said.
