At Long Beach Airport on Wednesday, a twin-engine plane crashed during takeoff, killing five people and injuring a sixth, authorities have confirmed.
The dead included local developers Jeff Berger and Tom Dean, and bicycle advocate Mark Bixby, the Long Beach Press-Telegram reported. The identities of the other to people who died hadn't been released.
Sources said Mike Jensen, owner of Pacific Retail Partners, was hospitalized in critical condition but was expected to survive, the newspaper said.
Allan Crawford, a friend of Bixby, said the group had set off in the Beechcraft King Air twin turboprop aircraft about 10:30 a.m. PDT bound for Park City, Utah, to go skiing.
