Charlie Sheen, the former Two and a Half Men Star whose outlandish comments have become infamous, has beaten out the iPad, Lady Gaga and President Barack Obama for the title of most discussed topic on blogs, internet-only news sites and social media sites. Sheens breakdown has been slightly less prominent in traditional print media, ranking 18th among print and electronic media sites.

Global Language Monitor conducted the survey which used an algorithm to analyze the top 20 subjects in thousands of media outlets, including both internet-only sites and those attached to traditional print publications for the period beginning January 1, 2011 and ending March 8, 2011. Obama, French President Nicolas Sarkozy and deposed Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak were the top three persons of interest in traditional media.

Paul JJ Payack, president and chief word analyst for GLM explained the difference as what happens when you have an editorial process that helps discern which news is most significant for the reader.

Sheens outbursts have yielded a cottage industry, from a 32 page comic book slated for release by Bluewater Productions to the Tiger Blood Radio channel on Sirius XM to a strain of cannabis being marketed in California medical marijuana dispensaries.
