The mother of country singer Mindy McCready says her 5-year-old grandson Zander has been traumatized by his recent parental abduction.

"We feel sorrow for Zander because he's traumatized, and for Mindy," CNN quoted Gayle and Michael Inge, McCready's mother and stepfather, as saying in a statement. "We just hope she does the right thing from here on out and that this is a wake-up call for her."

The Inges have legal custody of Zander.

McCready, who has battled drug addiction for years, has visitation rights with her son. His father is country singer Billy McKnight.

McCready, a one-time "Celebrity Rehab" star, took the boy from her mother's Florida home late last month and asked a court to restore custody to her.

Officials ordered her to return the child to his home last week, but McCready refused. She and her son were discovered hiding in a closet in an Arkansas residence during the weekend.

It is unclear whether McCready will face charges in the matter, CNN said.
