Unemployment Rates in Europe Remain Unchanged

Unemployment rates in both the eurozone and the larger European Union were unchanged in May, the statistical office Eurostat said Friday.

Unemployment held at 9.9 percent in the 17-member eurozone and 9.3 percent in the 27-member EU, Eurostat said.

Jobless rates ranged from 4.2 percent in the Netherlands and 4.3 percent in Austria to 20.9 percent in Spain and 16.3 percent in Lithuania.

In Europe's largest economy, Germany, unemployment was 6 percent. In France, it was 9.5 percent.
