Munich, Germany, is expecting about 6 million people to attend the upcoming Oktoberfest, with many having made reservations a year in advance.
The two-week festival, which begins Saturday, regularly draws crowds of millions to the city's Theresienwiese site, and experienced Oktoberfest-goers recommend making travel and accommodation reservations at least a year in advance, The Daily Telegraph, Britain, reported Friday.
Oktoberfest, which offers free admission but charges $12 for a liter of beer at its 14 tents, began in 1810 as a celebration of the Oct. 12 wedding between Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen. The celebration became an annual event that continued for decades.
