Actress Brooke Shields returned to Broadway June 28, taking over the role of Morticia on Broadway's "The Addams Family."
"I am delighted to be joining 'The Addams Family' this summer," Shields said in a statement reported by Playbill. "When
the producers asked me to come see the show a few months ago, I found
it to be wonderfully entertaining, funny, clever and even touching, and I
knew immediately that I wanted to be the next Morticia, following the
amazing Bebe Neuwirth. I can't wait to join Roger and the wonderful
cast."
Shields, who is replacing Bebe Neuwirth, is starring opposite Tony Award winner Roger Rees, who plays patriarch Gomez in the popular musical based on characters created by illustrator Charles Addams, Playbill reports.
Other cast members include Brad Oscar
as Uncle Fester, Jackie Hoffman as Grandma, Rachel Potter as Wednesday,
Adam Reigler as Pugsley, Zachary James as Lurch, Adam Grupper as Mal
Beineke, Heidi Blickenstaff as Alice Beineke and Jesse Swenson as Lucas
Beineke, according to Playbill.
Shields made her Broadway debut in 1994 as Rizzo in "Grease." The actress also performed in "Wonderful Town," "Cabaret" and "Chicago."
