Maria Shriver has filed for divorce from former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger after months of unsettling revelations.

The petition, asking for spousal support and joint custody of their minor children, 17-year-old Patrick and 13-year-old Christopher was filed Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court by L.A. divorce attorney Laura Wasser, TMZ reports.

The former California governor hired divorce attorney Robert Kaufman, according to MSNBC.

The property accumulated during the marriage will be divided at a later date, TMZ reports.  Sources told TMZ there is no prenup, so all of Arnold and Maria's earnings over the past quarter century will be divided 50/50.

The divorce comes after former housekeeper to the Schwarzeneggers Mildred Patricia Baena came forward as the mother of the "Terminator" star's 13-year-old love child.

The estranged couple were married for 25 years and have four children together.
