Israel Lobby routs Obama as dollar dies
By Paul Craig Roberts
It did not take the Israel Lobby long to make mincemeat
out of the Obama administration’s “no new settlements“ position. Israeli Prime Minister
Netanyahu is bragging about Israel’s latest victory over the US government as
Israel continues to build illegal settlements on occupied Palestinian land.

one was broadcast by the entertainment division. Specifically, Jenna Bush

Anyone with some information can immediately see
that the sweetened ‘Complementation Agreement for Defense and Security
Cooperation and Technical Assistance between the Governments of Colombia and
the United States’ signed on October 30, and made public in the evening of
November 2, amounts to the annexation of Colombia to the United States.

Muslim Americans brace for backlash in the wake of Ft. Hood tragedy
By Louay Safi
As soon as it became clear that the suspect in
the shooting rampage at Ft Hood claims the Islamic faith, every Muslim
organization of note put out a press release condemning the brutal attack that
claimed the lives of 13 soldiers and sent more to hospital for treatment.
Muslim spokespersons were on every TV channel and newspaper answering questions
on what drove Major Nidal Malik Hassan to open fire on the soldiers he was
supposed to care for, and to betray the institution that paid for his education
and helped him become the psychiatrist he is.

Muslims need not be apologetic
By Linda S. Heard
Muslims make up roughly one quarter of the world’s
population. Just because one out of almost 1.5 billion ran amok, leaving 13
dead and 23 wounded, does not mean the entire Muslim nation is responsible.

The Washington Follies: Stocks soar, unemployment passes 10 percent and the dollar slumps

Stocks are soaring, yet unemployment surges and
the dollar slumps. A contradiction made possible by Washington’s neglect of
international challenges to U.S. growth.

The senseless acts of mass murder continue
By Howard Lisnoff
The mass murders pass by like the images of a
surrealistic dream that are suppressed with the coming of the dawn. This time
it was Major Nidal Malik Hasan who killed 13 and wounded 28 at the Soldier
Readiness Center at the largest military base in the U.S., Fort Hood, Texas.

Rendition prosecuted abroad while U.S. courts do nothing
By Mary Shaw
The George W. Bush administration was the target
of much criticism from human rights groups for, among other things, its policy
of extraordinary rendition, in which detainees have been transferred for
interrogation in other countries that are known for their use of torture. And
human rights groups and individuals have long been calling for an end to
rendition, and accountability for all those who have enabled or participated in
the use of torture in the “war on terror.”

Some are more equal than others
By Nick Egnatz
The Great Recession is over, but (and it is a
very big but) it will be a jobless recovery. The official unemployment rate is
due to hit 10 percent, while a 16 or 17 percent figure would show more
accurately those who are not registering with local authorities because
benefits have run out. Certainly a figure well beyond 30 percent would
represent the underemployed and part-timers who want full time work at a livable
wage.

No emergency summits for Arab human development crisis
By Ramzy Baroud
When the first Arab Human Development Report
(AHDR) was published in 2002, a star glistened in a vast, gloomy sky. The fact
that a UN-sponsored report, authored by independent Arab scholars would receive
so much attention in Arab media, was in itself a promising start. The fact that
such terminology as human security, personal security, economic security, etc
-- as highlighted in the report -- would even compete with the largely
ceremonial news bulletins’ headlines in many Arab countries was in itself an
achievement. But then, the star quickly faded, the terms became clichés, and
the report, published seven times since then, became a haunting reminder of how
bad things really are in the Arab World.

Afghanistan: It’s not the how but the why of war
By Ben Tanosborn
For all the criticism progressives bestow on
Ronald Reagan for just about any decision he made while living at the White

should be -- the former president doesn’t seem to get appropriate laudatory
mention for his handling of the aftermath in the 1983 bombing of the Marine
barracks at the Beirut (Lebanon) airport where 241 American servicemen lost
their lives in a single day.
