More non sequitur arguments from the Christian Right’s dogma of duplicity
By Mel Seesholtz, Ph.D.
The “Yes on 8” campaign in California that, for
the time being, succeeded in revoking some citizens’ basic civil right to a
civil marriage used scare tactics and non sequitur arguments based on
misrepresentations, distortions, and deceptions. And they’re still at it.

Political discourse in the US warped by religious extremists
By Howard Lisnoff
The ride down the western border of
Massachusetts is serene in fall. The hills have turned from the vibrant red,
yellow, and orange colors of the season to a more muted orange and brown. Scenic
vistas, that were blocked by leaves only a few weeks ago, open up and reveal
more distant and larger mountains in New York, and lakes and marshes, whose
reeds have by now gone to winter brown. It’s an enjoyable way to end an
afternoon working at the local community college helping students with their
writing.

Distorting research, promoting hate, repeating history: business as usual for the American Family Association

Don Wildmon and his American Family Association
are notorious for their anti-gay rhetoric and efforts to hurt, in any and every

Hallmark Cards to celebrate love and commitment expose bigotry and hate
By Mel
Seesholtz, Ph.D.
The
leaders of America’s Christianist Right have been whirling and twirling lately.
First, the California Supreme Court ruled that banning same-sex marriage was
discriminatory and, therefore, unconstitutional. Then the Court ruled
unanimously that medical doctors could not use
personal religious beliefs as ground for not treating gay and lesbian patients.

America’s religious fascists waging war on love, people and families: Part 3, California’s Proposition 8
By Mel Seesholtz, Ph.D.
Today, civil equality and marriage are the
primary targets for America’s religious fascists. They were unsuccessful in
overturning equality in Massachusetts, so California’s Proposition 8 ballot
initiative is now their focus, especially since California has no residency
requirement for people marrying in the state. Their greatest fear is that civil
equality will spread, especially since Massachusetts has repealed the 1913 law banning
out-of-state marriages.

America’s religious fascists waging war on love, people and families: Part 2, the perpetrators, continued
By Mel Seesholtz, Ph.D.
Fascism has two interlocking, rudimentary needs:
concocting an anti-intellectual mythic ideology and identifying a group of
people who, based on that ideology, can be blamed for all society’s ills. The
Nazis used Aryan myth and bogus science to support their claim that Jews -- as
well as homosexuals and gypsies -- were the “sub-humans” responsible for all of
Germany’s problems. The “master race” must ostracize, marginalize and
eventually eliminate them if society was to return to righteous ways. There can
be no discussion, no compromise. The paladins of the movement are divinely
inspired in this holy war. Their judgments and edicts cannot be questioned. The
leaders of America’s Christo-fascism use the same playbook the Nazis did.

America’s religious fascists waging war on love, people and families: Part 1, the perpetrators
By Mel Seesholtz, Ph.D.
Can’t really call them “Christian” because their
actions and rhetoric are designed to hurt people. Can’t really call them
“Religious” because they use dogma for political gain. They believe their
interpretation of the Bible -- and their’s only -- should supercede all civil
laws, including the U.S. Constitution. They are Dominionists,
religious fascists or more precisely “Christo-fascists,” as Chris Hedges dubbed
them in his 2006 book American Fascists:
The Christian Right and the War on America.

Anti-gay politics continues to drive Don Wildmon’s American Family Association
By Bill Berkowitz
Two different -- yet ultimately interlinked --
issues relating to the “homosexual agenda” are agitating the folks at the
Tupelo, Mississippi-based headquarters of Donald Wildmon’s American Family
Association (AFA) these days. One is your basic AFA-sponsored boycott; the
other, according to Wildmon, will determine the final outcome of America’s “culture
wars.”

Dominionists, pulpit politics and a ‘special offering’ for a political campaign
By
Mel Seesholtz, Ph.D.
The
legal minions of Christian Dominionism have been busy for some time finding ways
pastors can use the pulpit for political purposes. The Alliance Defense Fund, a
group of lawyers dedicated to realizing the Dominionist goal of marrying church
and state, has taken another step in that
direction.

spare change to fund three 4,000-plus-word simultaneously-placed advertisements
